Columbia College
Columbia, MO 65201
This college campus is rumored to be haunted by The Gray Lady, the ghost of a Southern Belle who committed suicide after her lover was killed for trying to sneak into her dorm room during the Civil War. Her apparition has been spotted and she has been known to close windows and iron clothes. However, years later, a student on campus admitted to staging the hauntings and said they were accountable for what had been going on. The campus is still believed to have some real hauntings surrounding it, though. There is said to be a haunted phone that calls the Campus Safety office at 2:10 AM from the elevator of the Robnett-Spence Building. Many believe the ghost is that of a science student who failed and committed suicide in the 1970's. Another story surrounds a wicker casket that is stored in the attic at St. Clair Hall. It is said to be a viewing casket for president Luella St. Clair-Moss's daughter Annille, who died at age 11 in 1900 from rheumatism.
