This cemetery has been around since the 19th Century but has been more or less abandoned for the past three decades. Billy Cook is a resident ghost that lingers the grounds, he killed six people furing a 22-day criminal rampage between California and Missouri in the early 1950's. He was buried at this cemetery in an unmarked grave after he was executed at San Quentin by gas chamber.

  • Musket Shots in Peace Church

I've never had a paranormal experience until October 31st, 2025. I was with 3 of my friends in Peace Church cemetery after hours, around 11pm I believe. We had been walking around the cemetery and had reached the sign marking the spot of the original church. We had been messing around, not really expecting anything to happen at all, which nothing did, not for a while at least. When we went on our way back, we turned out lights on for a second to see something my cousin thought he was seeing, but it turned out to just be a trash can. We suddenly heard a very loud sound from the left side, coming from about 10 feet away from us, probably right at the fence even. We shined our lights but saw nothing, and then asked each other if one of us did that. I thought one of my friends was playing a joke on me, but we realized none of us did it, and we ran back to the car. When we got into the car we tried deducing what could've made the sound, from a rock hitting a tree to a tree branch falling, we didn't think of anything that made sense, or anything that could've been that loud. I suddenly thought of a musket, and I realized that it sounded exactly like it, as i had shot one before. My friend searched up a video of someone shooting it, and everyone immediately agreed after hearing it, that that was the sound. I've done some research, and I know several civil war soldiers are buried in the cemetery, and that a huge massacre took place there during the civil war. I looked online for similar experiences, and people have said that you can hear "echoes" from the civil war, including soldiers talking, shouting, and shooting. Very freaky experience. I also don't believe it was a person, because we didn't hear a second shot, nor did we see a muzzle flash, which is very prominent on flintlock rifles. It also sounded as though it was only a few feet away from us, and we didn't hear nor see anyone else out there. We didn't even have our flashlights on until right before it happened, so I doubt someone was waiting for us. Either way, still a very eerie experience. Being in there it just simply feels like you're being watched. I've visited the cemetery a few more times at night with friends and they always say that they think they hear things or footsteps behind us. It's a very creepy vibe out there, and I absolutely recommend it.
