This hotel dates back to 1912 and is the spot where Harry S. Truman spent election night in 1948. It was also once a training camp for boxer Jack Dempsey, and a summer camp for the 1948 New York Giants. The hotel is also known for its ghosts, who provide a pervasive eerie feelings for some. Stories say the hotel's lap pool is haunted by a male ghost from the speakeasy days, during which the pool was part of the basement. The man was said to have been killed here by the mob. Other stories say the ghost they've spotted at the pool is a woman, who is seems to be upset and in search of her child. Her ghost is known to pull hair and throw things if her temper is riled. A ghostly woman wearing a maid's outfit, said to be in her twenties, haunts the hotel's third floor and is said to supervise the living housekeepers.

Spooky place

Well I was planning a Halloween wedding and we were planning on having it at the Elms but decided to go a different route. While we were being shown the venue from the staff. There were two ways to get into the lobby. The side entrance and the front. No one was coming and going and it was just my husband and I with the lady showing us around. We were standing near the front set of doors they are a very heavy wooden frame with glass double set of doors not automatic. The ones to the outside had latches but the other set were those swing type. One of the opened about 1/4th of the way almost like a doorman beginning to open it for us to leave. Even the lady showing us the hotel stopped and kind of laughed when saying well there is the ghost everyone talks about. It was kind of neat. Since no wind out side or anyone coming and going there was no explanation of why the door opened specially inside. Also it was slow like someone opening a door for you. The other thing was we stayed the night that night and used the swimming pool in the basement. We were the only ones swimming but we kept hearing the water move as if someone else was there. Kind of spooky. Now we were there before the Reno and haven't been back yet but would love to go. I wish we would have had that Halloween wedding. That hotel is an awesome place for any type of wedding.
