The Jesse James Farm
Kearney, MO 64060
This farm is where the well-known outlaw Jesse James grew up and it is believed to be haunted. James' parents moved to the farm in 1842 and Jesse and hisbrother Frank's James Gang terrorized the West from 1860 to 1882, stealing an estimated $200,000/ Jesse was killed in 1882 when he was shot in the back of the head by Bob Ford. He was then buried in the side yard but his remains were later moved to Mount Olivet Cemetery. Frank gave himself up, but was never convicted of the crimes, so he lived the rest of his life on the farm, later charging visitors for tours around the place. Witnesses have claimed to see lights in the farmhouse and have heard doors slamming, horse hooves stomping and whispering conversations.
